Larry and Charlotte Fry, of St. Charles, were the winners of last year's Celebrate Your Neighbor contest.
Everyone can use some good news. Our Suburban Journals Celebrate Your Neighbor contest, back for a fifth year, is your chance to share some with the world.
We are asking our readers in St. Charles County to nominate someone they know who makes an extra effort to help others, or someone who goes out of his or her way for the benefit of their community, school or workplace.
The people nominated don't have to live next door or down the block, they only have to live within the coverage area of the St. Charles and Wentzville Journals. We expect many of the nominees this year will be people who are always there to help in a time of need.
We will post the nominations we receive on this website. We also will profile some special neighbors in the print editions of the St. Charles Journals and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch over the next several weeks. (Neighbors we profile will be chosen at random and may or may not end up as finalists.)
There's more than recognition at stake here, though. Online voters will later pick the best neighbor from among five finalists, and the top vote-getter will receive $500. The two runners-up will get $100 each.
The deadline for nominations is 6 p.m. Sept. 21. Voting will run from Oct. 10 through Oct. 16. The winners will be introduced, together with a selection of nominees, in a special edition on Oct. 24.
